The Golden Hood

Once upon a time there lived a little girl named Bridgit in a small town near the Rosebury Woods. She was known to everyone as Little Golden Hood, as she wore a beautiful golden cloak. She was a very sweet and kind soul. One day, Little Golden Hood's mother baked a gorgeous strawberry cake.

Bridgit: The cake looks delicious, mommy! Can we take it to grandmama?

Bridgit's Mother: That's a nice idea, sweetie. Let's cut half of it and you can take it to her!

Bridgit: Yes mommy! Yes! Yay!

The mother cut and lovingly packed the delicious piece of cake in a beautiful pink basket.

Bridgit's Mother: Here you go, Bridgit! Be safe! I have packed a jelly sandwich for you to eat on the way. And come back before the sun sets! The wolves come out then!

Bridgit: Okay, mommy!

Little Golden Hood waved goodbye to her mother and left. Meanwhile, deep in the Rosebury woods lived a wolf family. They always went out to scare little children and to steal their food away!

Wolf 1:However, Egro, the youngest wolf of the family could never bring any food in the house as he was very kind and soft spoken.

Wolf 2: He was always troubled by his brother.

Wolf 3: Hey Ergo. Are you going back home again with no dinner?... Hmph.. Heheh!

Wolf Ergo: I will surely get delicious food for dinner. In fact, I will bring a delicious cake!

Wolf 3: Cake? You can't even get a half a slice of bread! Hope you get your cake... in your dreams! Haha

Wolf Ergo: You wait and watch. I can be mean. I can be a really mean wolf Okay?!

Bridgit was happily walking through the woods. She gazed at the birds flying, played with the squirrels and collected beautiful flowers on her way. She began to hum as she walked... which Ergo could hear as he took a scroll to find his prey.

Wolf Ergo: OOOOHH! Someone's coming my way...! Let me hide real quick... Hee heee! I am going to get some yummy food.

Ergo swiftly hid behind a tree and waited for Golden Hood to pass by.

Wolf Ergo: I am going to terrify her to the bones!

Ergo breathed in slowly and prepared himself and as she came closer to him, he leaped out.

Wolf Ergo: RRRRAAAWWWRRR!!!

Golden Hood was startled

Bridgit: Ohh! Oh Hi, little puppy! Are you lost?

Ergo was puzzled for Little Golden Hood was not afraid at all!

Wolf Ergo: I am evil, Rawwrrr!! A...ah woof woof

Bridgit: Aww.. You must be hungry. I have got food for you.

Bridgit took out the Jelly sandwich that her mother had packed and tore a piece from it.

Bridgit: Here you go, boy!

Wolf Ergo: AAAAH!!

Bridgit: But you have to sit down first. Sit down.

Wolf Ergo: What? Why?

Bridgit: No sit down! Else I will not give you this.

Wolf Ergo: Okaayyy....

Bridgit: Give me a handshake? Give it...!

Wolf Ergo: Fine.

Bridgit: Good boy! Here's your treat!

Ergo had received the tastiest jelly sandwich and now here he was, getting patted which he absolutely loved! He immediately snuggled and licked Bridgit.

Bridgit: Ahahaha! Stop it now! Let's go.

Bridgit and Ergo continued to walk in the woods. She picked up a few berries and gave some to Ergo too. They had already become good friends. Ergo was curious about the basket. He tried to find out what it was as they walked.

Bridgit: Oh! It's a piece of delicious strawberry cake baked by my mommy. I asked her if I could take it to my grandmama and she said yes! And when on my way, that's when I met you!

Ergo was ecstatic. It was exactly the dish that he had promised his brother.

Wolf Ergo: hmmpphh??

Bridgit: Umm. I am afraid I cannot give it to you. It's enough only for my grandmama. But if I have some left, we can eat it together!

Wolf Ergo: Hmm..

Bridgit: And I will definitely give it to you if you are a good boy.

Golden Hood patted Ergo on his head and the two continued to walk. Just then, Ergo started to hear his brother's voice in his head.

Wolf Ergo's Brother: Hey Ergo. Are you going back home again with no dinner.. Hmph.. Heheh! Hope you get your cake... in your dreams! Hahaha

Wolf Ergo: What am I doing? I should be a mean wolf! Not someone's pet! This kid isn't supposed to like me! I must be Fierce! Ha! Hyaah! Aaaoooo!

Ergo continued to complain. But Golden Hood did not understand. He jumped and howled around which left her very puzzled.

Bridgit: What.. what are you doing? I won't be able to give you the cake if you jump so much! You have to behave like a good boy.

Ergo calmed down. But he was still mad at himself. He promised his brother that he would get him a cake for dinner and this was his chance.

Wolf Ergo: I cannot be like this... I have to do something! I am not a dog.. I am a wolf... A wolf!!

Bridgit: Aww little pup. You're such a cute pet!

Wolf Ergo: Cute? Me? Oh thank you! Hehe. You made ma blush... wait a minute. What am I doing? Focus Ergo! Focus!

And then Ergo ran around Little Golden Hood and swiftly snatched the basket from her hands.

Bridgit: Woah!! Puppyyy! Wait!!! Wait for me!

Bridgit chased him. But Ergo leapt through the thick bushes and through the wide tree roots.

Bridgit: Give me back my basket!!

Bridgit couldn't keep up with the wolf's speed and tripped on the roots of the tree.

Bridgit: Ooh!!!

Poor Bridgit bruised her knee and couldn't get up. She was hurt and helpless and began to cry.

Bridgit: waaaaaahh! Waaaaahhhh!!

Bridgit's cry could be heard far by Ergo, as he ran.

Wolf Ergo: Run, Ergo! This is your chance! You can prove your brother wrong! Ha!

Bridgit: waaaaahhh!! Waaaahh!

Wolf Ergo: Hmmm.. she must be hurt.. Maybe I should check. But... No! I should take this cake to my brother! Fine. Fine! ... I don't think I'm meant to be mean... I should be going back. I'm really worried.

Ergo ran back to Bridgit. She was sitting on the ground and weeping badly. Ergo saw her bruised leg and felt extremely guilty. He kept the basket beside her and sat next to her. He was so upset that he couldn't hold back his tears. He cried too.

Wolf Ergo: boohoo! boohoo! I'm such a bad wolf. I hurt the poor Little Golden Hood. She was just being nice boohoohoohoo! Aoohoohoohoo!

Seeing Ergo cry, Bridgit immediately hugged him.

Bridgit: Aww little puppy! You're crying for me? Don't worry! I'm a strong girl! It's okay! I know you were just playing with me. You are sooo kind.

Ergo felt guilty for his actions and licked Golden Hood.

Bridgit: Hahahahaha! You're tickling me! Stop! Hahaha!

Bridgit and Ergo walked together again and soon reached her grandmother's house.

Bridgit's Grandmother: Oh hello dear Bridgit.. Ohh! You brought a wolf home?!

Bridgit: No grandmama, I got you cake.. and this pup is my new friend!

Grandmama was shocked to see her granddaughter casually walking into the house with the wolf.

Bridgit: Come here and sit with me, Puppy!

Wolf Ergo: Hmphh!

They sat at the dining table and Grandmama was terrified to her bones to see the wolf. Grandmama cut a piece of cake. One for herself, one for Golden Hood and... one for the wolf

Wolf Ergo: Yummy yummy!

Grandmama, the little Golden Hood and Ergo began to eat.

Bridgit's Grandmother: Aren't you afraid of the wolf?

Bridgit: Of the puppy? Noo!!

Bridgit's Grandmother: He's got such hairy arms!

Bridgit: All the better to hug me.

Bridgit's Grandmother: He's got a big nose!

Bridgit: All the better to smell berries in the woods.

Bridgit's Grandmother: And he's got a big teeth! All the better to eat you!

Bridgit: Eat me? Oh no grandmama! He just eats jelly sandwich and loves cake. He's a dessertarian!

Bridgit's Grandmother: What?

Bridgit: A

Bridgit: A Dessertarian! He only eats desserts.

Bridgit's Grandmother: Where did you learn that from?

Bridgit: I read a lot, Grandmama.

Bridgit continued to eat and so did her little wolfie Ergo, leaving grandma completely baffled. After sometime, they both decided to leave.

Bridgit's Grandmother: Goodbye, Bridgit! Goodbye, Wolf!

Bridgit: Goodbye grandmama! Say goodbye, puppy! Off we go now before the sunsets. Momma told me that the wolves come out at night.

Ergo thought how good his day was while spending his time with the lovely Golden Hood. But then, Ergo was sad too since he did not get a piece of cake to show his brother.

Bridgit: Okay, puppy. I have to go home now.. Sorry I can't take you with me. My mother doesn't like pets. But we will meet again! Definitely!

Wolf Ergo: Mmhmm!

Bridgit: Oh wait!

And out from the basket, Bridget pulled out a huge piece of strawberry cake.

Bridgit: Here you go! Just as I promised. You've been a good boy, So I saved some strawberry cake for you! Have this for your dinner. I know you love it.

Golden Hood hugged Ergo and he snuggled her back.

Bridgit: Take care, little puppy! Bye!

Ergo and Bridgit parted ways to go back to their homes. Golden Hood returned home and told her mother about her adventure as her mother nursed her wound.

Bridgit's mother: I am pretty sure there are no puppies in the woods.

Bridgit: But mother! It was a puppy!! You just don't believe me!

Ergo went back home to surprise his brother with a piece of cake.

Wolf Ergo's brother: How is this possible?

Wolf Ergo: I was just.... True to myself. Go on! I had plenty!

Ergo was glad to have been friends with The Golden Hood as he had learned he should not try to be someone that he's not. He remained kind and generous to every passerby in the forest and always treated with delicious food.
